A four-hour fire broke out thursday night in Barangay Navotas West and Barangay Sipac in Navotas city, leaving at least 1,491 families or 7,157 persons homeless.
800 houses, mostly made of light materials, were destroyed.
Two children were reportedly killed in the incident.
5 evacuation centers, including Bagumbayan Elementary School, Navotas National Highschool and the city’s sports complex, were opened to 1,340 families or 6,432 individuals.
To date, most of the families have returned to the fire site, according to DSWD.
Appeal for support
The affected families are in need of food and non-food items:
* Food (rice, sugar, canned goods,cooking oil, coffee, bottled water, noodles)
* Non-food (sleeping mats, blankets, medicines, laundry soaps, kitchen utensils, water containers, plastic sheets, portalets, and construction materials for housing repairs)
