The Citizens’ Disaster Response Center Foundation, Inc. (#CDRC) sent an open letter to Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III. This is to request for tax exemption for the shipment of pinewood for the #Shelter Project which will benefit families affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013. From December 2015 to May 2016, #Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH) of Germany sent three shipments totaling 10 container vans (nine 40-footer vans, one 20-footer van) of pinewood needed to build 303 #permanent houses in #Jaro, #Leyte.
Since December 2015, CDRC has approached different government agencies including the Department Social Welfare and Development (#DSWD), the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), the Office of Civil Defense (#OCD), and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) requesting for exemption from taxes and duties and storage fees of shipments. But six months after, the pinewood are yet to be released and the houses for the typhoon survivors still await completion.
