4 June 2019 – CDRC celebrates with child advocates the approval of #RA 11188 (Act Providing for the Special Protection for Children in Situations of Armed Conflict and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof) thru a ceremonial signing of its IRR at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center today. Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), in partnership with the UNICEF Philippines and the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation (PLCPD), organized the event.
In her welcome speech, CWC Executive Director V Mary Mitzi Cagayon-Uy congratulated all government agencies, civil society organizations and all child advocates who fought and continue to fight the long battle for #children’s rights and protection. She said that “the law seeks to strengthen protection mechanisms for children involved, affected and displaced by armed conflict situations as well as to sustain the operationalization of a system on monitoring, reporting and response system on grave child’s rights violations.
After the IRR ceremonial signing by different government agencies, all organization representatives participated in the Commitment Signing. This commitment underscores children’s rights and protection especially in times of conflict or war, including child protection from all forms of violence and abuse.
RA 11188 was signed into law on January 10, 2019.
