Taal Volcano Eruption Situation Report #4 January 17, 2020 12:30 pm

Overall Situation
• As of January 17, activity in the main crater of Taal Volcano has been characterized by steady steam emission and infrequent weak explosions that generated dark gray ash plumes 100-800 meters tall and dispersed ash southwest to west of the main crater.
• Existing fissures identified in barangays of Lemery, Agoncillo, Talisay, and San Nicolas in Batangas Province have been observed to widen by a few centimeters. A steaming fissure has been newly observed on the northern slopes of Taal Volcano Island. Receding of the shoreline has been observed around the whole of Taal Lake.
• The Philippine Seismic Network plotted a total of 634 volcanic earthquakes. One hundred seventy-four of these registered at magnitudes M1.2-M4.1 and were felt at Intensities I-V.
• Alert Level 4 still remains in effect over Taal Volcano. This means that hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.
Reports on Affected Populations
• A total of 26,294 families or 121,455 persons are taking temporary shelter in 373 evacuation centers. (Source: Batangas PDRRMO)
• A total of P74,549,300 worth of damages to agriculture was incurred in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite.

Evacuees at the Parish and National Shrine of Padre Pio
Emergency Response Efforts
• On January 13, CDRC deployed a Rapid Assessment Team to Talisay, Batangas.
• On January 14, RAT gathered data from PDRRMO.
• STPRC conducted assessment in evacuation centers in Batangas.
• On January 16, CDRC staff conducted a meeting to plan for emergency relief delivery to survivors.
• On January 17, CDRC staff and volunteers repacked relief goods at the CDRC office.
