Situation Overview

  • On October 30, 2018, Typhoon Rosita has made landfall in Dinapigue, Isabela at 4 AM today with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of 210 kph per hour and moving west at 20 kph. At 12:30 AM the same day, Provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Mountain Province are under TCWS and provinces of Abra, Apayao and Kalinga are under TCWS .
  • On October 29, 8:00 AM, TCWS 2 was raised over Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, & Baguio city while Abra and Apayao was under TCWS 1.
  • For preparatory and monitoring purposes, the CorDisRDS conducted an emergency staff meeting on October 29, 2018 and activated the emergency operation structure of the agency. Likewise, provincial partners were informed of the incoming typhoon as early as October 27, 2018 for preparation and monitoring purposes.
  • At present, CorDisRDS and provincial partners are on monitoring as the typhoon traverses over the region.

 Current situation

  • Weather status. Upland Kalinga (Pinukpuk, Pasil, Balbalan,Lubuagan,Tanudan) and Upland Abra (Lacub, Malibcong, Licuan,Sallapadan,Tubo) reported having strong winds and rains and so with Eastern Mountain Province (Paracelis, Natonin, Barlig). The rest are experiencing strong winds and heavy to slight rains.
  • Suspension of classes. As of today, all school levels are suspended, as well as work in government offices except departments directly working with the DRRM office.
  • Status of power.Total power outage in the Province of Kalinga as early as October 29, 11PM was reported. As per CorDisRDS monitoring thru radio and communication with partners, some parts of Baguio City, Municipality of La Trinidad, Itogon, Tublay and Kabayan is now experiencing power outage as well as some parts of Ifugao Province and Natonin, Mountain Province.
  • Damage to Shelter. As of today due to strong winds and rain in Upland Kalinga, there are three reported totally damaged houses in Barangay Poswoy, Balbalan and three partially damaged in Lubuagan. The figure presented may increase when the typhoon traverses directly to the province.
  • From the initial reports from provinces of Kalinga and Mountain Province, vegetable crops and rice crops on their flowering stage were also damaged due to the strong winds and rains being experienced in the area.
  • As to the number of evacuees, a total of 540 families from the provinces of Benguet, Abra, Mountain Province and Apayao were reported to have pre-emptively evacuated.
