3 July 2019 – To start the National Disaster Awareness and Resilience Month 2019 (July), CDRC participated in the WGQ (Washington Group of Questions) and Mobile Data Collection Training in Legazpi City, Albay as a member organization in the Andam Lahar Consortium along with other Local and International NGO partners. Other attendees were representatives from the 3 barangay project areas in the Municipalities of Daraga, Sto. Domingo, and Camalig, Province of Albay.
Led by Simon of Cyrene and Humanity Inclusion (HI), the activity targeted to gather and capacitate volunteers with the basic knowledge on the usage of the “KoBo” tool on an android phone as medium in gathering disability data in the survey and orient such volunteers on how to conduct the survey sensitively, especially those households with PWD family members. The activity was part of the consortium initiatives to include PWDs in DRR and be able to identify their needs during disasters. The WGQ was introduced as well in order to capture disability data. These Washington Group of Questions are :
- Do you have difficulty seeing, even if wearing glasses?
- Do you have difficulty hearing, even if using a hearing aid?
- Do you have difficulty walking or climbing steps?
- Do you have difficulty remembering or concentrating?
- Do you have difficulty with self-care such as washing all over or dressing?
- Using your usual language, do you have difficulty communicating, for example, understanding or being understood?
WGQ, as a disability survey tool, has only six questions recommended for censuses and participants are not allowed to ask follow-up questions as it may change the reliability of the tool.
Respondents have only 4 options in responding:
- No, no difficulty.
- Yes, some difficulty.
- Yes, a lot of difficulties.
- I cannot do at all.
Cloud database will be managed by Humanity and Inclusion (HI) and the data will only be used for Andam Lahar purposes.
Survey has commenced last July 8 until July 11, 2019.
